Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he hasn’t been in touch with his former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold since the latter's high-profile transfer to Real Madrid. As anticipation builds for Alexander-Arnold's return to the vibrant atmosphere of Anfield on Tuesday, there have been no conversations exchanged between the two. When prodded further about the frequency of their communication since the transition, van Dijk acknowledged that they haven't interacted much, especially after Liverpool negotiated a significant deal, reportedly worth around £10 million, for Alexander-Arnold to move ahead of the Club World Cup. The Dutch center-back, consistent in his focus on professionalism, stated candidly, “Not much, no… nothing personal.
I live my life; he lives his in Madrid. Trent’s a quality player — he was important for us for years. But now, he’s an opponent.” His words underline the reality of football transfers, where former allies become competitors, yet there remains a respect for Trent's undeniable quality and his contributions to Liverpool's achievements over the years. The looming match at Anfield serves as a reminder of the ever-intertwining narratives and shifting loyalties in the world of football.
