Burkina Faso says it has thwarted an alleged coup attempt against President Ibrahim Traore, accusing former transitional president Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba of orchestrating the plot. Security Minister Mahamadou Sana told state television RTB that the plan involved targeted assassinations of military and civilian officials, beginning with an attempt to kill Traore. He said Damiba was responsible for planning, funding, and recruiting participants while assuring the public that the situation was under control. Traore seized power in September 2022, ousting Damiba, who had himself overthrown President Roch Marc Christian Kabore months earlier.
