NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi Condemns Military Raid on Barbie Kyagulanyi’s Home in Magere
This statement is issued following a reported military raid on the residence of Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert (Bobi Wine) and his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, in Magere. According to NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, dozens of armed personnel—some in uniform, others in plainclothes—stormed the Kyagulanyi home late last night, forcibly breaking doors, assaulting occupants, and confiscating electronic devices.
Ssenyonyi, who personally visited the scene, was denied entry by heavily armed guards. “I’ve spoken to senior police officers who claim they are unaware of the raid and do not know who is commanding the operation,” he said. “This is not law enforcement—it is state-sponsored terror.”
The attack comes amid rising political tension following the disputed 2026 elections, in which President Museveni’s regime has been accused of widespread repression of opposition voices. Barbie Kyagulanyi, a prominent activist and humanitarian, was reportedly targeted during the raid, raising serious concerns about her safety and wellbeing.
JMWNI joins NUP in condemning this act of aggression and calls on the Ugandan government to immediately account for the safety of Barbie Kyagulanyi and all affected family members. We demand transparency, accountability, and an end to the militarization of political dissent.
“This is not just an attack on a home—it is an attack on democracy, dignity, and the right to live free from fear,” said Fred Edwards Kabogoza, Executive Director of JMWNI.
